This is a brilliant time to be an automotive aficionado - despite all the pressure to reduce emissions, the horsepower wars are alive and kicking. And one of the genres that has benefited heavily from this trend involves super-saloons. Well, as anybody who knows a thing or two about these family sprinters will tell you, the Mercedes-AMG E63 S is a rocket that can leave many opponents trailing in its wake.
This time around, we'll get to see the Affalterbach four-door duking it out with a Ferrari. We're talking about a 488 GTB. Sure, this might've been replaced by the F8 Tributo (here's the first one on custom wheels), while the Italian carmaker has also released the SF90 Stradale, a thousand-horsepower hybrid, but it's not like the 2017 example we have here is an aging toy, even though it could do with some extra muscle.
The Prancing Horse came to the brawl in factory form, but we can't say the same about its opponent. Truth be told, the Merc packs a moderate approach, one that takes its twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 to a nicely rounded 700 horsepower.
Russia is the country that saw the two duking it out, with the battle taking place as part of the Unlimited 500, which is the country's top tier drag racing event.
Fortunately, both the 1/4- and 1/2-mile numbers of the machines were recorded, so you can get a clear view of the racing action.
Note that while you'll find the Ferrari 488 GTB and the Mercedes-AMG E63 S drag race at the 0:35 point of the video below, the rest of the clip is also worthy of your attention, as this sees the 488 duking it out with all sorts of adversaries, including a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.
