Ferrari 458 Italia Gets Top Gear’s Car of the Year Award

After announcing the Lotus Evora is Top Gear’s Sports Car of the Year 2009, everyone got interested in finding out the winners of the rest of the categories. It seems that this year, the most important award, Top Gear’s Car of the Year 2009 was handed out to Ferrari’s new model, the 458 Italia.

In electing the Ferrari 458 Italia as their “Supercar of the Year”, BBC Top Gear Magazine said that this car has established “the new benchmark in getting from A to B as rapidly as possible.” They also described the 570-hp V8-engined berlinetta as “a game-changing car.”

When nominating the car for the overall top award as “Car of the Year”, BBC Top Gear Magazine described how it became “our winner because the scope of its abilities is absolutely breathtaking”, concluding that the Ferrari 458 Italia “isn’t just a worthy winner, it’s off the scale!”

The new Ferrari 458 Italia was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September. The super car is powered by a 4.5-liter V8 engine which develops 570 hp pushing the car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds. The 458 Italia has a top speed of 325 km/h.

When the was unveiled, the car manufacturer said "the 458 Italia is designed to fulfill the expectations and ambitions of our most passionate clients, the 458 Italia continues the Ferrari tradition of putting the thrill into driving as a result of track-derived technological innovations." As everyone gets greener every day, you should probably know that the 458 Italia needs 13.7 liters of fuel for 100 km and emits 320 g CO2. The price tag of 162,000 Euros does not include tax.
