Felipe Massa to Make Kart Racing Return in December

Felipe Massa's return to the track might happen in December, during the famous Brazilian Granja Viana endurance kart race in Sao Paulo. The event is scheduled in early December this year, which means the Ferrari driver will make his return more than four months after he began his recovery process from serious head injuries sustained during qualifying for July's Hungarian Grand Prix.

Although his initial hopes for a Formula One return were related to a potential entry in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in early November, the Brazilian will undoubtedly sit the entire 2009 season off.

In addition, he insisted that he will only attend the aforementioned event in Sao Paolo if the doctors will clear him for racing. Although his medical situation underwent a serious improvement lately, he still hasn't been allowed to resume physical training by his doctors.

“I wish I could be on the track tomorrow because I'm bored. It's not for me to say when, but rather the doctors and the FIA. Actually I could drive already; everything is as it was before (the crash), including the vision. The problem is safety, because of the risk of having another accident,” said Massa in an interview with Italian Sky TV.

Ferrari will also have to agree with Massa's participation in the famous kart race, as they are counting on the Brazilian to be ready for the season opener in 2010. According to Ferrari's CEO Luca di Montezemolo, Felipe Massa is the one certainty the prancing horse have prepared for the upcoming season.

Fernando Alonso is yet to be confirmed for the Scuderia, mostly because of Massa's unstable situation. Under the circumstances – Massa's recovery – getting rid of Kimi Raikkonen without securing a drivers' lineup for next year would make no sense.
