Felipe Massa Excited to Go Against Hamilton/Button Lineup

The news that Jenson Button has agreed to a 3-year fruitful deal with McLaren Mercedes in recent days has made the headlines everywhere. And with it, it brought another piece of controversy inside the F1 paddock.

Obviously, some people are against such a move, while others support it. A few days ago, former F1 triple champions Niki Lauda and Sir Jackie Stewart advised Button to stay at Brackley, as his move to McLaren would only compromise his chances of defending his world title.

In addition, former GP driver and current advisor for Red Bull Racing David Coulthard also told the media that he wouldn't move from a title-winning team to McLaren only for the money, as past experiences have taught him that fighting for the title is far more rewarding – from a sporting point of view – than earning more money and spend the season chance-less for the title.

Several other high-profiled figures in the UK echoed those comments yesterday, all of them focusing on the idea that Button's coming to Woking would be “like the adopted son (Button) going up against the prodigal son (Hamilton)”, as Johnny Herbert told The Sun.

Car designer Gordon Murray and F1 pundit Martin Brundle also argued against the move, as the latter even admitted that “in the past, they (McLaren) have had a history of really being able to only fully support one driver,” as said in a BBC Radio interview.

Ferrari's Felipe Massa seems to be the only one excited about fighting such a team, as he admitted that seeing those two in the same cars next year would make for an exceptional team to battle against.

I have read about the negotiations but I cannot speak about it as if it is certain. If it happens, it will be an excellent pairing,” said Massa, according to globo.com.
