Fauzy Could Make Renault Debut in 2011

Fairuz Fauzy will keep contact with the world of Formula One in 2011, after it was confirmed that he signed a reserve driver deal with Lotus Renault GP for the upcoming campaign. And that's certainly good news for the 28-year old racer who has recently been ousted from Team Lotus, despite having signed a 5-year deal with the Norfolk squad a year back.

An even better news, however, is that he might even get the chance to start a race in 2011, depending on his form with his new team. According to Malaysia's Star newspaper, it was the very team manager Eric Boullier who confirmed it, suggesting that “if Fairuz did well at some point in time towards the end of the season, he would give him a shot at it.

He (Boullier) added that it all depended on Fairuz himself on whether or not he made it as a F1 driver as there were many emerging talent around,” further added the aforementioned report in Star.

When appointing Fauzy as the team's third driver this season, Boullier insisted that the move was made to help the Malaysian driver develop into a future F1 racer. His comments were made to counteract potential claims that Renault's move was proceeded because of Fauzy's support from Group Lotus' mother company Proton.

He (Fauzy) is being developed and trained for better things with us and is not going to be a passenger. He has potential and we need to work on him to make him mentally and physically ready for such sport,” said the French manager.

Renault has recently extended Vitaly Petrov's deal for the upcoming 2 seasons of Formula One, which means that on paper the Enstone based team has a definitive lineup in F1 until the end of 2012.
