The Michigan State Police took matters into its own hands and organized a huge test with all the current offerings from Fiat Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors, USA Today reports.

Each had its clear winner, and for the one we all care about the most - acceleration - it was Ford's Police Interceptor. The modified Taurus with a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine reached 60 mph (97 km/h) in 5.7 seconds. Second came the Dodge Charger with its 5.7-liter engine delivering a 6.05 seconds acceleration time, 0.06 quicker than the Chevrolet Caprice.
In the outright maximum speed test, the table was reversed with the Caprice coming out on top. It registered a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h), compared to the 150 mph (241 km/h) of the Charger and Taurus. And to make matters even more confusing, it was the Charger who won the stopping distance competition needing 123.2 feet for a complete halt from 60 mph.
In the end, it doesn't look as if the results matter that much since the best-selling police vehicle isn't a sedan, anyway, but an SUV. It's the Ford Explorer which can accelerate to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds and tops out at 130 mph (210 km/h). So we do end this on a positive note after all.
