Fastest MINI Ever to Sell from $45,750 in the U.S., Official Debut Imminent

With 306 hp, the new generation MINI GP John Cooper Works will be the fastest car made by the British brand in its 60-year history. And just before the vehicle is officially shown for the first time, pricing information was dropped online.

The 2020 MINI GP John Cooper Works is scheduled for a session of meet-and-greet at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show starting November 22, so the Brits set out to announce the starting price of the model in the home market: £34,995 OTR. For the American buyers, that’s $45,750, including destination and handling charges.

The car, whose roots can be traced all the way back to the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, has been already spied numerous times on the Nurburgring, where was constantly clocked at under 8 minutes per lap.

“The predecessor model set the previous benchmark at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife with a lap time of 8:23 minutes. The prototype of the new MINI John Cooper Works GP went round the legendary “Green Hell” in less than eight minutes – and its testing programme is not yet over,” MINI said earlier this summer.

The secret for this level of performance is the four-cylinder turbocharged engine that hides under the hood and was confirmed to develop 306 hp. Helping it along is the aggressive styling, an eight-speed Steptronic sports transmission, and the mandatory paddle shifters.

There is a wealth of other data that has not officially been made public yet, so we’re eagerly waiting for the start of the Californian show to learn some more.

With such a high profile car comes great responsibility, and this is why MINI does not plan to build tons of it. Only 3,000 units will be produced and sold globally. Market launch is scheduled for the first months of 2020.

All the details know so far about the car can be found in the press release section below.
