The chief of Ducati Corse, Gigi Dall’Igna says that Ducati will not field the GP15 prototype at the first pre-season tests in Sepang in early February. The Italian team will bring to Malaysia a new updated version of the GP14 machine called GP14.3. GP14.3 will serve Ducati as another lab bike which will provide important data on certain upgrades, some of which are most likely going to be implemented in the GP15 machines as well.
Dall’Igna told motogp.com that the Desmosedici GP15 is still under development and more manufacturing is needed until the bike will be ready for real track action. More updates on how the Ducati Desmosedici GP15 are expected on January 19, as motogp.com will air a new episode of their Off Season Show. The Ducati top hat has apparently told the media outlet more on the characteristics of the GP15 machine and the degree to which it follows Ducati’s tradition.

If anything, Ducati has made amazing progress after Claudio Domenicali ‘brought Dall’Igna over from Aprilia and gave him a free hand to reorganize the entire Ducati Corse department. As he stated in his early days at Ducati, Dall’Igna was not shy to start creating a completely new motorcycle starting from the GP14 model and his efforts seem to start paying off, with Iannone already posting excellent lap times at Mugello and Jerez. The first Sepang test will definitely be interesting… to say the least.

MotoGP penalty license points still valid in 2015, several riders start the season with some, already

One of the differences in the sporting regulations between the 2013 and the 2014 championships is represented by the duration penalty points riders are “awarded” during the season. While the riders’ driving licenses used to be cleansed at the end of the season, 2014 introduced a new rule which extended the validity of the penalty points to 365 days.

That is, the riders will carry the penalty points from season to season, increasing the chances to accumulate enough points allowing the Race Direction to impose punitive measures with real disadvantages to the actual racing.

Currently, these measures are starting from the back of the grid, starting form pit lane or exclusion from a race. For riders who lose 4 points from their accounts, it’s a start from the back of the grid in the next race. Those who seem to like points deducted from their permits and reaching 7 of them, the next race will start from the pit lane. Finally, if a rider is so reckless as to reach the magic number 10, he’ll be watching the next race from the grandstands, or his pit box, as he will no longer be allowed to take part in it. The Race Direction alone deals with these sanctions, and other live race punitive measures can also be enforced, such as position changes, pit lane passes and so on.

Several riders are starting their 2015 campaign with penalty points, with the latest expiry date being the Australian round at Phillip Island in mid-to-late October. Andrea Iannone and Jack Miller are the only riders with 2 points deducted from their accounts, while Di Meglio, Aoyama, Aleix Espargaro, Bradley Smith and Stefan Bradl have one point each.

Andrea Iannone: 2 points

1 point - “Irresponsible riding” / 17-05-2014 (Le Mans Q2)

Jack Miller: 2 points

Hiroshi Aoyama: 1 point

Aleix Espargaro: 1 point

Stefan Bradl: 1 point
