It's just the internet, but those billions of ones of zeros going through a cable have connected us like never before. A lot of things have happened this year that make me feel a little numb inside, and the fact that Fast Lane Daily is closing is one of them.
I began watching the show in 2008. Back then, Youtube was still new, and there wasn't any car-related content, not like there is today. Manufacturers didn't post on Twitter, official launch videos were nowhere to be seen and there sure as hell weren't any clips from the Nurburgring.

Somebody had the idea of making money on Youtube with news related to cars, and they hired Derek DeAngelis, who was an actor/comedian. By no means am I saying that it was a bad idea, the exact opposite, in fact.

Back in those days, you couldn't really get car news in video format because by the time Top Gear or Fifth Gear aired, the story was several weeks old. As I began to write about cars professionally, FLD became something that I enjoyed every day, but after a while, I stopped.

So when Derek D got emotional halfway though the last Youtube video they will make, I began to feel guilty. "It's partly my fault and that of every other person who unsubscribed," I said to myself. But that's just the way the short attention span of the Internet works.

“I want to make it abundantly clear that I thank you guys, the fans, for sticking with me and this show for so long. It’s been a part of my life for almost nine years, so you can imagine it’s hard for me, coming to the realization that it’s most likely done,” Derek ends.

Jeremy Clarkson punched that guy in the face and changed Top Gear forever; /Drive is gone and so is Fifth Gear. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if people stopped watching Youtube and moved on to something else a decade from now.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
