FP3 at Assen has just ended and we got to see two blistering last laps that changed the way the time sheets looked entirely. The final minutes of the FP3 saw five riders becoming exceptionally fast. Bradley Smith, Andrea Dovizioso, Andrea Iannone, Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi have all posted fast laps at the end of the session and technically they reset the standings ahead of Q1 and Q2 this afternoon.
Rossi sits at the top of the combined time sheets with a 1'33.167 lap, followed by his Movistar Yamaha teammate Lorenzo, 0.108s adrift, and with Iannone only 17 thousandths behind him. Dovizioso also squeezed into the fourth position, while Bradley Smith managed to push Pedrosa and Marquez down in the sixth and seventh positions, respectively.
Vinales, Pol Espargaro and Crutchlow are going straight to Q2, while the last two slots will see a fierce battle between the likes of Petrucci, Aleix Espargaro, Stefan Bradl, Scott Redding and even Hernandez or Barbera.
It is yet uncertain how things developed and what solution was adopted for the conflict between the organizers of the GP (and owners of the Brno circuit) and the local authorities. So far, all that matters is that the MotoGP round at Brno, August 14-16 was not canceled.
Earlier this year, Dorna said that early June was the deadline for the organizers of the Brno round to pay the due fees. Still, because the Czech round draws the biggest crowds in all the championship, it was only natural that Dorna did not hurry to make rushed decisions.
As we reported, the state and Karel Abraham Senior had some disputes as to the conditions for the use of public funds for the Czech GP round. It looks like the contract for this year's racing weekend was inked, after all, as the ticket sales have resumed.
What will happen in 2016 is impossible to predict now, but we hope that the parties interested in having the MotoGP race in Brno will not wait for June next year to find a solution to their issues.
