Belgian fashion designer Dirk Bikkembergs put his latest collection on the Milan Fashion Week 2016 catwalk in the last day of the Italian event. His Sport Couture Collection is the result of a collaboration with Yamaha, and included bikes from the MT range.
The new Bikkembergs collection remains true to its creator's vision of combining the practical nature of sportswear and the refined lines of classy garments.

Bikkembergs' collection aims at setting the trend among active men who also ride motorcycles. The garments draw some inspiration from Yamaha's Dark Side of Japan marketing campaign that introduced the first MT machines.

We'll leave the fashion judgment to you, as we here are rather far from being able to say more than yay or nay when it comes to such things. At times, the symbolism fashion designers use in their collections transcends our sense of utter practicality.

We find talking about collections that are "more easily palatable," such as the Belstaff or Matchless ones, way easier than making an effort of some sort to deal with the haute couture world, anyway.

Functional fashion is, however, an interesting subject

As function-oriented as we are, we'll not downplay the importance of aesthetically-pleasing design. Being able to buy a jacket that looks and feels okay when behind the handlebars and off the bike is, indeed, a hard task sometimes, as mixing the two worlds in a way that satisfies both desires is not exactly easy.

In our book, fashion and motorbikes are hardly things that are easy to mix, but we do like riding gear that can also be worn as a casual piece of garment. Adding MT bikes to the fashion presentation may be a cool thing for the audience, but we need more than such "stunts" to be convinced.

Anyway, being a "haute couture statement," we're not taking things too seriously. At least, the ladies' black/white/red Bikkembergs leather trousers look appealing! Looks like Yamaha is charging into the apparel world, after signing an offcial merchandise deal with Valentino Rossi.
