Farfus and Menu Share Brands Hatch Wins

BMW's Augusto Farfus moved closer to the top of the FIA WTCC standings thanks to his impressive win in Race 2 at Brands Hatch, after Alain Menu had previously won Race 1 in a commanding style.

The Swiss driver managed to hold on to the lead after starting from pole position in Race 1, except for a few hundreds of meters in the early stages of the race, when he shared it with teammate Robert Huff. After taking it back, Menu raced on to the chequered flag without any pressure from the Brit, as Huff was left battling Andy Priaulx and Gabriele Tarquini for the runner-up spot.

In the end, Menu went on to secure another Brands Hatch win, his fourth consecutive season in which he scores at least one win at the British track. Huff managed to hold off Priaulx for 2nd place, while Tarquini and Rickard Rydell settled for 4th and 5th respectively.

Farfus, who suffered a tete-a-coeur in the very first lap of the first race, recovered incredibly to 8th place overall, therefore securing pole position for the second race.

The Brazilian was soon guaranteed his win on Sunday after teammate Jorg Muller got into 2nd place in the early stages of the race. Benefiting from a buffer zone created by his German teammate, Farfus led a comfortable race all the way to the chequered flag, while Gabriele Tarquini joined the BMW duo on the overall podium.

Rydell had to settle for 4th place overall, just ahead of local favorites Andy Priaulx and Robert Huff. Championship leader Yvan Muller scored some poor 2 points from 7th place (his only points of the weekend), after being offered the position by teammate Tiago Monteiro. Muller started the second race from last place on the grid – as he recorded a DNF in Race 1.

In the overall classification, Muller now leads from teammate Tarquini by only 5 points, while Farfus is one more point further in 3rd place.
