Faraday Future is a name that has gathered a lot of hope around it recently, and the hype seems to have been worthwhile. Sort of.
The company unveiled its first concept car, and the exhibit is stunning, to say the least. While shocking in design, it also bears an enormous surprise regarding horsepower and layout.
The single-seat electric vehicle has four motors that add up to over 1,000 HP. The vehicle is said to be able to go from 0 to 60 MPH in less than three seconds and is expected to exceed the 200 MPH barrier. If you’re still not impressed, the concept car comes with autonomous driving functions, although it isn’t a fully-autonomous vehicle.
With all the hype, we forgot to mention the exhibit’s name: FFZERO1 Concept. Okay, let’s face it, we didn’t forget. We just didn’t want to mention such a silly name for a concept car as cool as this.
It looks like it’s ready to race at Le Mans in the LMP1 prototype class and it even has the single seat layout to make such a thing happen. Unfortunately, we don’t expect to see a 24-hour race with electric automobiles any time soon, but the electric race car market is still young.
The vehicle does feature some interesting ideas, though, like the Variable Platform Architecture. This will be the base of all future models made by this company and it basically means that the cells of the battery are fitted between the two axles and are connected in “strings.” Thanks to this idea, the company can offer variable levels of range, power and drive without developing a new platform for each one.
Back to the car, the interior’s single seat is tilted in a particular way to make the driver sit at a 45-degree angle. The guys at Faraday Future claim this is done to improve comfort and blood flow (these two tend to go hand in hand).
Sure, Faraday’s future production car (see what we did there?) definitely won’t be a single seater and surely won’t look like this eccentric concept vehicle. However, this exhibit bears the mark of future production cars from Faraday: the line on the side of the car, dubbed “UFO line” by the designer, will be donned by all future cars from this company.
But this exhibit has done its job: everybody is speaking about Faraday Future and their electric vehicle plans and is eagerly expecting their first production car.
Until then, enjoy the gallery showing the new FFZERO1 Concept. God, we hate how that sounds.
