Faraday Future seems to have a strategy that involves hiring talented employees from other automakers.
The idea makes sense, as you can hire someone with proven talent and experience in the field you want to operate a business to ensure things go right from day one. The latest hire made by Faraday Future is a designer from Toyota, Jin Won Kim. His new job will be leading the Exterior Design Department at Faraday Future.
Even though his name is not as resounding as Chris Bangle’s or other famous figures in the automotive industry, we will have you know that Jin Won Kim was a 15-year veteran of Toyota’s Calty Design Research Studio, where he focused on exterior design. His best-known work includes the Toyota FJ Cruiser, Toyota FT-HS Concept, and the new Toyota Corolla Furia Concept.
The latest hire at Faraday Future has already confirmed the move on his Linkedin page, Electrek reports. Jin Won Kim will report to Richard Kim, Faraday Future’s Head of Design.
Mr. Richard Kim (name coincidence) used to work for BMW, and is the designer responsible for the exterior look of the BMW i3 and i8 models. Together, the two talented individuals should lead their teams into making beautiful cars for the newly-founded brand.
Starting with a new automaker does have its advantages. Even though Faraday Future has only revealed a concept car until now, the two designers have the opportunity to set a design language for the brand, which will make or break the company over the years.
We must note that the new lead exterior designer for Faraday Future will have limited input in the first production model designed by the newly-founded brand. As most of you know, the independent automaker funded by a Chinese billionaire is expected to showcase its first model by the end of the year, or in early 2017.
Considering the challenges ahead of the design team, Jin Won Kim will have limited input on the first production car from Faraday Future if it will be released less than a year from his appointment.
