Famous Rapper’s Gorgeous McLaren GT Sparks Ownership Controversy, Goes Viral

You’d think that ownership of a luxury car shouldn’t be the object of any controversy, but it looks like it can turn into a real scandal if you’re a local celebrity who happens to be the only owner of that particular car model in the country. A McLaren GT is the reason for a recent social media battle, showing that the good life comes with its risks.

One of the most successful artists in South Africa was recently accused of lying about the ownership of a brand-new McLaren GT. Cassper Nyovato (aka Don Billiato) recently treated himself to a luxury car and made sure all his fans knew about it. Adding an expensive whip to the collection is no rarity for a successful rapper, but in this case, it was an even bigger deal because Nyovato apparently became the first person in South Africa to purchase and own a new McLaren GT.

That’s no small achievement, so news about Nyovato and his gorgeous, immaculate McLaren quickly made headlines. The artist even invited the second person who would buy the famous luxury car to tag him, so they could become the “McLaren boys.” But rumors started going around saying that Nyovato was either being endorsed or that he was actually just renting out the vehicle.

One of the most recent accusations went viral, as an alleged luxury car rental company boldly claimed to have rented out the white McLaren to Cassper. Even though the rapper immediately dismissed the allegations, pointing out that it wasn’t even a real car rental company since it had no official contact information, a lot of people still believed the claim and sided with the supposed company. This often happens on social media platforms, where it’s easier to come up with false accusations just to become viral.

Cassper will continue to show off his prized luxury toy, despite all controversy. And the claim that he’s the only one in South Africa to own such a beauty still stands. The 203 mph (326 kph) beast that can get from 0 to 62 mph (100 kph) in just 3.2 seconds is sure worth bragging about. Unless somebody else jumps on the McLaren GT wagon soon, Cassper’s fabulous white whip will keep on making waves.
