It's all good, car gals and guys: the driver of the Hyundai sitting before us isn't trying to fool anybody. "So why is his Sonata dressed up like a Dodge Charger Daytona/Plymouth Superbird"?
The answer to the question above is simple, as long as you happen to be familiar with the ways of the 24 Hours Of LeMons. We're talking about a racing series that aims to capture the spirit of the world-famous 24h Le Mans race, albeit using the kind of budget that won't give one a heart attack (the officials can claim any participating car for $500 after a race, so teams are encouraged to stay within this budget).
The series has now reached a level where we can all enjoy dirt cheap impersonations like the one we have here, so, really, there's nothing wrong with this contraption.
And for the record, the car sitting under that massive and probably inefficient wing is an early 2000s Sonata, the facelifted model.
Apparently, the platform has enough to offer in order for Beijing Hyundai, the South Korean automaker's Chinese joint-venture, to still offer it today, albeit under the Hyundai Moinca (nope, no typo here) nameplate.
Now, some of you might still not be sure about the kind of tongue in spoiler humor that goes on in the LeMons series. So, for instance, here's a now-old E30 3 Series BMW that proudly wears the super-sized kidney grilles of the latest 7 Series and X7.
Oh, and let's not forget this C3 Chevrolet Corvette, whose engine compartment now accommodates the heart of an M3, so that it can offend both camps.
Of course, we can't discuss this topic without mentioning the 2020 Charger Hellcat Daytona that pays hommage to the 1969 original. You see, modern-day constrains, such as pedestrian crash safety regulations, have prevented Dodge from bringing back the massive wing and the sleek nose. Well, the Internet just won't have the said edition with the standard body, which is why it's come up with various renderings that address the matter.
