If anybody ever asks you to tell him everything that's wrong with Nissan as a company, just point him in the direction of this article and let the magic happen.
You see, this story should be just about an Infiniti F35 Coupe from Ontario that has been horribly tuned to look like a fake Nissan GT-R. However, a history lesson is also required to explain the badging and the connection between these two cars.
Let's start with the horribly done tuning and get it out of the way. When new, this Infiniti G35 Coupe offered a more premium version of the powertrain and chassis in the 350Z. It was classy and cool, but a badly fitting bumper ruined all that. Besides the fame GT-R bits hanging off the front end, there are also stupid covers for the headlights and taillights and a big brake kit that isn't going to fool anybody.
Right, let's move on to the confusing history lesson. You see, G35 coupe built between 2002 and 2007, which is what we have here, is classified as a third generation model by Infiniti. However, it's also the 11th generation Nissan Skyline in Japan and probably in Canada as well. Same car, same engine, same factory that builds it… different name.
Right before the G35 became known as "New Generation Skyline" in 2002, Nissan was selling the famous R34 GT-R under the Skyline name. In fact, the name GT-R is actually derived from those of the basic trim levels on a Skyline: GT 25 GT, GT-V, GT-FOUR, GT-T.
And do you guys remember the new Q50 sedan, the only all-new model Infiniti has right now? Since February 2014, it's sold as the Nissan Skyline with Infiniti badges over in Japan.
Seems like you can take the Nissan out of Infiniti, but you can't take the Infiniti out of Nissan… or something like that.
