Turnier is Ford talk for station wagon, and the Mondeo Hybrid in this body style is pretty neat as a family car. The eco-friendly credentials don’t stop here, but continue with the all-new Puma crossover from Romania.
Also the home of the EcoSport and 1.0-liter EcoBoost, the Craiova plant was chosen by Ford of Europe for the production of the Puma. Only available with the three-cylinder turbo and front-wheel drive, the newcomer relies on a 48-volt electrical system and an integrated starter/generator connected to a lithium-ion battery. The e-motor is rated at 11.5-kW, and its role is to assist the internal combustion engine whenever needed for better gas mileage.

The EcoBoost can be had with either 125 or 155 PS, which is good enough for a subcompact crossover with the underpinnings of the Fiesta. It is also worth highlighting the Puma has a large trunk and adequate headroom for the rear passenger, as well as more legroom than the Ford EcoSport.

Going forward with the Mondeo Turnier Hybrid, the mid-cycle refresh is more than meets the eye. A four-cylinder engine running the Atkinson cycle works together with an electric motor to develop 187 PS, which works out at 184 horsepower for British readers. A 1.4-kWh battery has to make do for short-distance electric driving, and Ford of Europe claims that up to 90 percent (!!!) of the kinetic energy can be recuperated by the regenerative braking system.

This thoroughly efficient powertrain helps the Mondeo Turnier Hybrid return 4.4 liters per 100 kilometers and 101 grams of CO2 per kilometer, figures that might not be impressive at first glance. But then again, don’t forget this fellow here is a mid-size station wagon that weighs a lot from the get-go.

Ford has also brought the Mondeo with the EcoDiesel at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but as you can tell from the live photos, there was no place for the turbo diesel option next to the hybridized lineup. Three outputs are available for the 2.0-liter engine, namely 120, 150, and 190 PS (187 horsepower).
