This year, the BMW F10, F11 and F07 5 Series (the Sedan, Touring and GT) will turn 4 years old. That means, according to BMW’s four-year life cycle, that they will receive a facelift.
New spyshots showed that the German company is already testing the new model. That we already knew. The news is that, while taking photos of the new model, we noticed something. The car they were testing had a Plug-In socket. This can only mean that BMW is seriously thinking about releasing a Plug-In Hybrid at the same time as the Life Cycle Impulse for the 5er.
We don’t know at the moment if this new version will replace the already available ActiveHybrid 5 Series or if they will be sold separately. The ActiveHybrid 5 Series currently doesn’t have a plug-in system, but it does have an electric motors. That could possibly mean that this new model might replace it, due to some changes done around the car that could result in plug-in support.
We don’t know if the powertrain will be more efficient but we can notice the different alignment of the twin tailpipes. However, BMW might just use the 5 Series for its body, just to test the plug-in system and not in order to launch a new model. The trooth should be revealed this summer when the 5 Series LCI is scheduled to enter production.
