If they wanted to, we think BMW really could unveil a new car or engine every month. The Germans really want to have a tool for every job at hand, which can get a bit confusing. Next on the rumored-to-be-unveiled list is the 3-Series Gran Turismo.
This more practical mix between a sedan and a liftback was expected in Paris, but of course it didn’t show. Now, German publication Bimmer Today says it will be shown in Geneva next March, with sales in July 2013. Now that’s more believable!

The 3-Series Gran Turismo will use the platform from the long wheelbase 3-Series sold in China. The key difference being that the GT will have a sloped backside and a large hatch opening for the boot.

The complete range of engines and drivetrains should be transfered from the F30 3-Series to the GT, and there’s even talk of a new ActiveHybrid with a 2.0-liter instead of the usual 3.0-liter from the 335i. Rumors suggest the N55 six-cylinder engine (335i engine) will also be replaced, though we don’t have any details yet.
