Those drivers racing in Formula 1 are very hard to impress by any other car that's below the F1 cars they tame on each Grand Prix, but once in a while, they drive a car that makes them smile for a second.
You could very well argue that the Toyota GT86 CS-V3 is by no means an ordinary car, and you're right. As its name suggests, it's not your standard GT86 but it managed to make a good impression on Lotus F1 test driver, GP2 Series champion, and Toyota GT86 owner Jolyon Palmer.
Before you hear the expert's conclusion, we need to present some details about the car. The CS-V3 was developed by Toyota Motorsport, and its primary goal is providing a low-cost racer for the V3 class in the VLN endurance championship.
The car is available in both right- and left-hand drive and under the hood lies the same, untouched 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine available on the stock GT86, that's good for 197 horsepower. Also, the car's gearbox is the standard six-speed unit, but engineers tuned up the racer's suspension and exhaust systems with the help of a set of Ohlins-sourced springs and a revised catalyst.
And now, for the verdict. Besides considering the car "really good fun", Palmer adds that "power delivery is smooth but it’s really holdable, to get it to slide you don’t feel like you’re about to spin off – it’s very easy to have fun with," before closing that the GT86 and CS-V3 are very similar.
