When you take two professional Formula One drivers out of the high-performance cars and put them inside of two electric microcars things get quite amusing.
Even though they haven’t had quite the best season this year, F1 Lotus Team racers Romain Gorsjean and Pastor Maldonado did spend some fun time in the Middle East, as they were asked to race each other in the world’s largest shopping center, while driving a Renault Twizy.

The video was recently uploaded by Renault Middle East and shows the F1 drivers taking a different approach on what American housewives would call “shopping therapy”. After all, the two pilots were already there for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, so why not enjoy their stay with a bit of marketing ventures.

Renault is building up quite the collection of crazy stunts, with their recent record jump with a truck and all. To have F1 drivers racing each other while driving an electric microcar is quite unique, so it’s only normal the whole scene had to take place somewhere special. The Dubai Mall might not be an average race track, but it is definitely big enough for two Renault Twizys.

Considered the world’s largest shopping mall based on total area and the 14th largest by gross leasable area, The Dubai Mall has a total retail floor of about 502,000 square meters (5,4 million square foot) and currently hosts over 1,200 stores. Considering the size of Renault’s two-passenger electric vehicle (length 2.32 m/91 in, width 1.19 m/47 in, height 1.46 m/57 in) we’re pretty sure there’s enough room for professional drivers to race it.

But we’ll let you decide on this one.
