F1 2009 Video Game Confirmed, First Details

Formula 1 enthusiasts finally have the chance to take the place of Lewis Hamilton or Jenson Button thanks to a new video game to be developed by Codemasters. The game will hit the market this autumn and will be be initially addressed to Ninteno Wii and Sony PSP platforms, with Xbox 360, Sony Playstation 3 and PC versions expected to arrive by 2010. Furthermore, the 2010 version will take full advantage of the online multiplayer communities offered by PS3 and Xbox 360.

This is the first Formula 1 title after approximately 3 years since Sony produced the last game, with the the 2009 version likely to include all this year's data, including cars, teams and tracks, as well as the new Singapore night circuit and Valencia Marina Bay GP. Obviously, gamers will be able to use KERS and slick tires, with all new aerodynamic regulations in place.

Another thing worth mentioning is that the 2009 title will be the first Formula 1 game ever to include Lewis Hamilton, as the world champion hasn't participated in the 2006 season when Sony developed the last computer game.

According to some media reports, Codemasters agreed to pay up to 200 million bucks for the rights to launch the game.

"Codemasters has a great heritage when it comes to racing games and their reputation is second to none. We're working very closely together on the upcoming Formula 1 titles and are very impressed with what we have seen," Bernie Ecclestone was quoted as saying by the GMM news agency.

"F1 computer games and circuit simulations can be invaluable for racing drivers so it's great news that our fans will also be able to experience the BGP 001 through this game," British Formula 1 driver Jenson Button added according to autosport.com.

Since it will be developed by Codemasters, the 2009 Formula 1 title will rely on the same platform as Colin McRare: DIRT and Race Driver: GRID game launched last years, a matter of fact that can be commented from different point of views. For instance, the game could use the impressive car physics seen in GRID, which is quite a good aspect since we're talking about a Formula 1 game. However, the GRID gaming experience, with detailed crashes and all similar stuff, might be improper for a Formula 1 title.

Nevertheless, there's still a bit to wait until Codemasters releases the first trailer of the game, so more details are expected to surface soon.
