F-Type R Roadster Prototype Will Give You a Jaguar Eargasm

Never willing to back down from a fight, Jaguar is preparing yet another F-Type coupe for battle with the Germans. It's a roaster, this time one that's got a much more hardcore setup that could/should help it keep up with the big boys of the supersports class.
A fully camouflaged prototype is nothing to get all worked up about, but the way this one is shaped hints at a future monster. It's got a front chin as big as Jay Leno's, rear quad exhaust pipes and yellow calipers, indicative of carbon ceramic discs.

We could either be looking at the F-Type R Roadster or something else, something even better… an RS, maybe.

Jaguar started production of the F-Type with the convertible model, but only offered engines going up to a 495 hp supercharged V8. The newer coupe model comes with a 550 hp version of that mill under the "R" badge, which could be what we're looking at here. Rumors about a 600 horsepower Jag have also been rampant, so there's a potential for even more power from our mystery prototype.

The 600 hp leaper isn't supposed to come out until at least 2015, but if the leaper wants to jump the gun and surprise us, nobody will ever complain.

Regardless of the numbers, this is an exciting car for reasons that can't be expressed by adding or subtracting horsepower. Just listen to the sound of the supercharged V8 and image what it's like to experience that with the top down. Add to that 0 to 60 in 4 seconds and a top speed of 180 mph, nearly 300 km/h, and you get a Mercedes SLS on a tight budget.

We drove the 380 horsepower V6 version last year and not for a second did we consider there was a need to have Porsche 911 Turbo S levels of output with limited grip from the rear wheels only.

This white knuckle ride will be downright scary to drive, as scary as it is beautiful. Perfect Jaguar then? Probably.
