We all need a bit of Billy Tatum in our life. In case the name doesn’t ring a bell, you should know that Billy Tatum is an unsung hero and latest viral star from Huntington, West Virginia, who can turn every tragedy into a moment of laughter by simply narrating it.
Last week, a city crew was dispatched to deal with a large tree that had been causing residents some trouble. During a previous storm, one massive branch had been torn off and went through the windshield of a parked truck, a WSAZ report noted.
As the crew was working, the tree fell on a parked Fiat 500, which happened to belong to a West Virginia student. It completely totaled it, as you can also see in the videos available at the bottom of the page. However sad this incident, Tatum was able to unintentionally make it less serious, with his brilliant account of events.
When the tree fell, Tatum was on his porch, minding his business. And thank the powers that be that he was there, because how else would we have gotten gems like this one?
“It sounded like a beer can getting flattened,” Tatum says. “It just was ‘crunch.’ I hate to say it, but it was kind of cool, you know? What guy doesn’t like destruction. That’s why we go to demolition derbies, but hey, the bottom line is that’s that girl’s new car, and she can’t get to school now.”
“It flattened it like a pancake from the back seat to the tail and I said, ‘Oh, whoops’,” Tatum adds with the same sparkle in his eye.
Deadspin notes that, despite Tatum’s claim that the poor girl won’t have a means of transportation to and from school because of the city crew’s negligent action, that’s not entirely accurate. The city has agreed to give her a rental by means of apology. You can now laugh without feeling guilty about it.
