Extreme Nurburgring Crash Sees Renault Megane RS Landing on Its Roof

Regardless of the safety measures introduced for 2016, the Green Hell remains true to its nickname and will bite any driver who fails to be mindful of their corner entry speed. This is a lesson a Renault Megane RS driver has painfully learned over the weekend, with the man rolling his car over in a monster Nurburgring crash.
The laws of physics saw the hot hatch being pushed to the side of the corner it had entered carrying way too much speed. The Megane RS went straight into the protection barrier at the side of the track, losing a wheel in the process.

More importantly, the Renault flipped, continuing its journey across the track on its roof, finally coming to a halt on the following bend's entry point.

Those of you following the 'Ring action closely are probably experiencing a déjà vu. However, this is only normal, considering the past year has brought us two similar accidents.

The same bend claimed two other Megane RS units that also happened to be finished in White, with one of the accidents having happened in September last year, while the other one took place back in May 2015 - you can check out all three crashes, from this weekend's one to the earliest one, in the pieces of footage below.

Rushing to demonise the Megane RS after seeing these clips is the exact opposite of the conclusion that needs to be drawn here. You see, since the French hot hatch is the most affordable "new car" path to a decent Nurburgring time (read: a lap in the 8-minute area), many drivers are easily tempted into pushing the car past its limits.

And while Renault Sport engineers may have made wonders for the Megane RS chassis, the height of the car, which sits within the class average, can't be ignored in scenarios such as the ones shown below.

Perhaps mistakes similar to what we can see here are what makes the difference between Ring Wolves and a totaled hot hatch.
