Old Mustangs are undeniably cool, but the restomod scene has gotten out of hand. People end up spending $300,000 on some projects, which takes the whole joy out of it.
What we need is a nice rat rod-style project that treats the Mustang with the disrespect you would a Korean rental car. Enter Kyle Scaife's 1967 Mustang Coupe, a build like no other on the web.

We've known about this bad boy for a couple of years, and it's always grown little by little. But there seems to be a connection between this car and the HEMI-swapped Beetle that spurred us into sharing.

This is the kind of project that will anger purists, and Kyle must have dealt with a lot of pitchforks and torches over the years. But his creation can almost be considered a piece of art and comes pretty close to what we see in Yasid Design's renderings.

The owner started this project with a really cheap 1967 Mustang body that didn't have an engine and was covered in rust. Rather than buy a bunch of replica parts, he just made everything himself, including a tubular chassis with an integrated roll cage that supports everything.

Suspension geometry is one of the most radical departures from the muscle car norm. At the front, you can see the springs from adjustable pushrods. A similar configuration is done for the rear axle, where we see almost horizontally mounted coilvers though the window. It's like a giant go kart.

Kyle also made a unique body kit by hand, leaving it as raw as possible. It makes the Mustang as wide as a Hummer and has a Pikes Peak theme when looked at from the back. Or is this an aviation theme inspired by the drilled out aluminum seats?

The powertrain seems to be straight out of a C5 Corvette, namely the 5.7-liter LS1 V8. It's had some modifications like a Texas Speed Cam, a Holley Mid Ram intake manifold and Kooks headers.
