Exostrusion Is Predator’s Favorite Watch and It's Inspired by Sportscars

Designer Peter Fletcher has created an LED watch concept that could qualify for an exhibition named Watches of Galaxy, only that doesn’t exist (yet...) Its creator claims he was inspired by rear diffusers sported by modern performance cars, but to be honest it rather looks like a futuristic timepiece aliens would wear.

Not that the design wouldn’t be weird enough, but the coolest part of this watch is the way it reads time. According to its creator, the time is told by LEDs arranged in four quadrants, the top two quadrants display the hours and the lower two the minutes. The quadrants are divided into the appropriate number of segments by an extruded form.

The time can be displayed in 12hr and 24hr formats with the centre segment acting as a AM/PM indicator. This display layout would also allow for a phased digital time telling mode. The time and modes are controlled by subtle soft touch controls mounted in the strap, highlighted by two indents.

Peter Fletcher claims this design has a retro sci-fi industrial look that may appeal to people who are fans of games and film. But it may also appeal to petrol heads who can relate to the original inspiration.

If you ask us, however, we’d tell you it looks rather like the Predator’s Yautja, the self-destruct device, an explosive feature built into the Sci-Fi character’s wrist gauntlet. In case you haven’t seen the movies, nor played the games, we’ll remind you that this weapon of last resort is used by Yautja both as a means by which to commit honorable suicide, and also to remove any evidence of their existence and prevent their technology from falling into the hand of another species.

Anyway, according to its designer, if you vote the watch it might one day hit the market so you could to actually buy it.
