After long debates and a lot of studies, it seems like BMW will finally build another supercar, just in time for their 100th anniversary, in 2016. Just like we dreamed, the car will be using the i8 body and chassis but will receive a ‘proper’ engine.
According to our insider close to BMW’s management, that was never wrong so far, the Board just approved the funds needed for development and research in creating a V10-powered hybrid supercar.

At the moment, we’re guessing it will be based on the S85 5-liter engine that was so adored by the brand’s fans, coupled with an electric engine coming straight out of the i3, making probably around 200 HP.

The V10 could be making in excess of 800 HP thanks to turbocharging, even though we don’t know at the moment if that’s a possibility, as most fans surely expect it to be naturally aspirated in order to have absolutely no lag whatsoever. Even so, coupled with the instantaneous torque of the electric engine, lag could be a thing of the past.

People might say that the V10 could never fit in the i8 but since we’ve seen it swapped in a 1 Series shell, we think the engineers will be able to do the same here. With a total weight of around 1,700 kg (3,748 lbs) and 1,000 HP at its disposal, this 100 year anniversary supercar could very well be the one we’ve been waiting for all this time, the one that would take on the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari LaFerrari and a true M1 successor.

The only problem we might see with this car would be its price tag. While its competition costs around $1,300,000 you can expect the new M8 to be priced in the same region.
