Exclusive: MINI Plans to Unveil 3 New Models Until 2016

For quite some time now, we’ve been seeing MINI prototypes being tested around Germany and the rest of the world, leaving us wondering what exactly is going on in Munich and Oxford. One of our insiders recently said that the British brand is planning to release 3 new models in the next months, across 2015.

We’ve seen MINI testing the new Convertible for quite a while now and it seems like we’re just weeks away from seeing it in the flesh in premiere. According our reliable source inside BMW, the new model will be making its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, scheduled for this November.

The venue, that is supposed to start on the 21st of November, with press days scheduled between 19 and 21, will be hosting the world premiere of the new model.

Using the exact same platform as the new 3-door and 5-door hardtop models, the new one will keep the soft top choice alive for the next few years at least. Engines will also be identical to the rest of the line-up, including 1.2-liter and 1.5-liter 3-cylinder plants as well as 2-liter 4-cylinder ones for range topping models.

MINI Cooper JCW Hardtop will be revealed at Detroit

The 2015 Detroit Auto Show will also host the launch of a new model, the fresh MINI John Cooper Works hardtop that was unveiled as a concept earlier this year, at Detroit as well. The car will be using a turbocharged 2-liter 4-cylinder engine, the same as the one used on the 225i Active Tourer.

Making 231 HP and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque, this will be the most powerful model ever made by the British company. It will most likely be paired to a manual 6-speed gearbox but the automatic option will be a mystery until the official launch of the car. Some point towards the same 6-speed unit on the Cooper S but since the 2 Series Active Tourer is available only with the 8-speed automatic, that could also make a debut on the MINI platform.

New MINI Clubman heading to Frankfurt International Auto Show 2015

In March, at the Geneva Auto Show, the world met with the Clubman Concept. The production car will apparently be unveiled next fall, at the Frankfurt Auto Show, bringing a lot of the tech and design seen on the concept to production.

The engines will be the same as on the rest of the line-up but the design will be different, featuring 6 doors in total, keeping the barn-style ones at the back alive and well. The Clubman will be joined by the Rocketman as a smaller, city car offering later on, the project being put back in motion.
