In a land far away in Southeast Asia, there’s a country known as Brunei. Although it’s populated by less than half a million souls, Brunei hides a petrolhead’s dream - the country’s Sultan is a big car aficionado, owning over 800 pieces of exotic supercars and custom Rolls-Royce limousines.
Both Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah and his son, Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, are well-known around the world as over the top spenders for everything that has four wheels, ticking the fast and luxurious boxes. Throughout their car history’s best buys, one of the best moments is this turquoise Jaguar XJ220.
The Brunei royal family got bored of it and sold it to a champagne dealer, before moving on to the current owner. But the current owner is also planning to part with it, deciding to auction the XJ220 at a Silverstone Auctions sale event on November 15th.
To boot, ‘JAZ 220’ only recently had expert work done by renowned specialist Don Law Racing. Scarcity and old age aside, we’ll remind you that a Jaguar XJ220 isn’t just a blast for the past. Thanks to a twin-turbo’d V6 motor developed with know-how from the mill equipping the iconic MG Metro 6R4 Group B monster, this bad boy is churning out 540 horsepower.
As for the pair of Garrett TO3 chargers, they offer you with a brutal 3.5-second run to 60 mph (96 km/h) and a top speed of 213 mph (343 km/h). Not exactly bad for a car that predates the Spice Girls, innit?
