OBD2 diagnostics apps that can run on Android devices have become quite popular lately, as they make it possible to check fault codes, access sensor information, and get an insane amount of details about every car right on a smartphone.
And all they need is an OBD2 adapter that you can find on the likes of eBay for fairly low prices, after which the app can connect wirelessly using Bluetooth to provide you with all kinds of vehicle readings.

While for some Torque Pro is the leading app on Android, Car Scanner ELM OBD2, often referred to as Car Scanner, is also one of the most popular choices, and ithat happens for a good reason. Car Scanner provides an overwhelming number of features and works with the majority of OBS2 ELM327 adapters.

The most recent version of the app comes with welcome improvements that Volkswagen car owners are going to like, including new readings for specific DSG units.

According to the changelog, the latest update adds “DSG DQ200/DQ250/DQ500 adaptations readings (only for UDS units) in connection profiles for VAG TSI/TFSI and VAG Diesel DPF var.1,” so if your VW uses one of these engine and transmission configurations, Car Scanner should now provide more information after this new update.

Beginning with this version, Car Scanner also comes with long coding, while also getting additional changes and fixes aimed at MQB coding.

So overall, Car Scanner is now even better for Volkswagen owners, although it can obviously work with a wide variety of brands, including Toyota, Renault, Mazda, and others.

And if you’re still not sure if Car Scanner is worth a try or not, the listing in the Google Play Store pretty much speaks for itself. With over 5 million installs from the Play Store alone (without even counting other download sources, like the dedicated APK installer), the app has a total rating of 4.7 out of a maximum of 5.
