There is much talk about the legal aspects of lane splitting, with some of those opposing such maneuvers claiming they are safe only when cars are stopped. However, watching this video will shad some light upon one of the key elements which make lane splitting dangerous: ignorant drivers.
The video shows that even when the traffic has come to a halt, crashes can occur if some driver decides to move without checking with his or her mirrors. Signaling this intention prior to steering either way could help other road users notice that he or she plans to move and subsequently slow down and give way... but turn signals are there for nothing, in this case.
