Evelo Omni Wheel Instantly Turns Your Bike into a Pedelec

Meet Evelo Omni Wheel, one of the coolest gadgets we saw this year, and one of the first new-generation electric mobility solution to start production. Of course, ideas like the Copenhagen Wheel or the FlyKly Smart Wheel are as cool as it gets, but the Omni Wheel offers even more advantages and... is ready to hit the stores.

Versatility is the keyword which describes the Evelo Omni Wheel best and that is because this gadget can be installed as an add-on to pretty much any bicycle, providing an instantaneous transformation into an electric one or pedelec, with no other prerequisites such as tools, mechanical skills and the like.

Unscrew, replace wheel, go

Converting your bicycle into an electric vehicle can be done in few easy steps and the operation can be performed by anyone, including one’s grandparents. Installing the Evelo Omni Wheel requires the removal of the front wheel, which is an even easier task in case you’re riding a quick-lock-equipped two-wheeler. The Omni Wheel is then installed in place of the traditional wheel, and all you must do is make sure the axle has been secured in place.

The system starts with a press of a button, and comes with its own “brain” and removable controller, making a dedicated smartphone app and the inherent smartphone (used as a dashboard) no longer necessary. The small control panel offers all the info you need, such as the pedal-assist level, distance and speed, and can be easily removed from the bike and stored in a pocket when you’re away.

The standard battery version of the Evelo Omni Wheel offers 25 miles (40 km) of power assistance, while an extra battery can extend the range to 40 miles (64 km). Everything is as simple as it gets, since all you must do after installing the Omni Wheel and pressing the power button is pedal your way in and around the city and enjoy life on a bicycle.

Most other electric bicycle which cost a minimum $2,000 (or €2,000 if you’re in Europe), and the price factor is one of the drawbacks when it comes to people deciding to spend money and go green. The Omni Wheel is not exactly dirt cheap, with pre-orders available for $1,000 (US price, equivalent to €800) and a couple of hundreds more after the official launch takes place soon.

We really like the ease of use and the fact that Evelo Omni Wheel is suitable as an upgrade for a lot of bicycles. This, and the fact that it will reach the customers before other similar products do may be the biggest factors in the success of the project.
