Profiles in History, a name well known in the business of auctioning Hollywood memorabilia since 1985, announces a most interesting event to take place on 15-16 December: the very bruised and battered helmet and signature leathers Evel Knievel wore on his 13 bus attempt in London, back in 1975.
The jump itself was successful, meaning that Evel went over the buses, but the landing was troublesome: the front of his Harley-Davidson bounced back and out of control, crashing Evel Knievel pretty bad and finally hitting the famous stuntman.
With a broken hand, a new pelvis injury and a vertebral compression fracture, Evel Knievel was carried out on a stretcher. However, he left the stadium on his feet, declaring that the 90,000 people who came to see him would be "the last people in the world who will ever see me jump. I will never, ever, ever, ever jump again. I am through."
The helmet is expected to bring between $60k and $80k (€46,140 to €61,520), while the signature leather suit custom made and worn by Knievel should auction for $40k - $60k (€30,670 to €46,140).
