If you’re a movie buff, this here might be a good chance to snag a piece of history for a relatively small amount: the Honda featured heavily in the 2012 film “The Place Beyond the Pines” is now up for sale.
The 2012 film, directed by Derek Cianfrance and starring Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, saw Mendes’ character driving a 1982 Honda Prelude: in fact, the car gets considerable screen time. Leon Ferri, its current (and third) owner, bought it off Craigslist after the film wrapped, fixed it and is now selling it on eBay. Bidding starts at $5,000.
In addition to a piece of movie history, you get a car that is 90% original, in full working order and relative good condition. It still has a few spots of rust and some dents on the body that Ferri did not fix, but is otherwise looking good.
The Prelude’s odometer sits at 84,000 miles, and it features a Boudoir Red interior that is in excellent condition. The St. Moritz Silver exterior leaves something to be desired, with a 7 out of a maximum 10 overall score.
Among other downsides, Ferri mentions that factory A/C doesn’t work and that the sunroof, although fancy-looking and not leaking, needs help opening and closing. The heater core is also deleted. On the upside, the 2-door Prelude has been fitted with a brand new engine.
For a former movie prop car / Hollywood memorabilia, the Prelude sells cheap, especially when compared to similar offerings. On the other hand, “The Place Beyond the Pines” is an arthouse flick, which, though it brought Eva Mendes lots of critical acclaim and consolidated Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper’s reputation as solid actors, had a limited appeal for general audiences.
The film also starred Ray Liotta and Rose Byrne, and sees Gosling play a stunt motorcycle rider who puts his rider skills to bad use, robbing banks. A trailer for it is available below, though it doesn’t show the Prelude now for sale.
