The competition will be organized by EEVRC, a London-based company, which is currently working with car manufacturers for the development of the series.
According to the initial plan, the EV Cup will be made up of three different sections: City, Sports and Prototype. A special set of rules for the series is also being worked on. So far, Think, Ginetta, Lightning Car Company and GreenGT have expressed their support for the series.
The EV Cup will debut in 2010 with a number of promotional event in the UK and mainland Europe. For 2011, EEVRC planned a provisional six-race series, with each race to take place on circuits in the UK, France and Germany.
“We are creating an opportunity for the EV manufacturers to promote their vehicles in a new and exciting way. We want to show that green motor sport is a reality – and an exciting one at that,” Sylvain Filippi, EEVRC managing director said in a release.
