EV Cup Ready to Kick Off

Announced ever since last year as the world's first green racing series in the world, the EV Cup will kick off in England on January 13, during the Autosport International Racing Car Show at the Birmingham NEC.

With seven racing days already scheduled in UK, Spain, Portugal and the US, the series promises to become, years from now, one of the major pioneering endeavors for the new arrivals on the automotive market.

The series has been organized in such a way that it will include two main categories, City EV class and Sports EV class. The former, supported by various celebrities, will field only Think City EVs, while the latter will see Westfield iRacers in action.

In the future, as more venues are secured, the series will get a third class, Prototype EV, which will feature the latest, ultra-fast, non-production electric race cars.

The first race of the EV Cup is scheduled for sometime this summer, with the inaugural race to take place at a venue in the UK. The race day will be made up of qualifying sessions, recharging time and the actual race, which will not last longer than 20 or 30 minutes.

"We believe that the commercial world will sit up and take notice when they begin to recognize a new opportunity to partner with a new and exciting sporting event like the EV Cup, which is cost-effective and adds significantly to their sustainability credentials,” said Sylvain Filippi, managing director of EV Cup.

"We are creating an opportunity for the EV manufacturers and suppliers to promote their technologies in a new and exciting way. Green motor sport is a reality."
