Equipe 100th Big Block Watch Celebrates Chevrolet Centennial

A Detroit-based (where else?) watch manufacturer has taken up the challenge to design a timepiece destined to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Chevrolet. More specifically, Equipe has just launched a special edition watch for that occasion, which builds on their already popular “Big Block” model.

Dubbed “100th Big Block”, the wristwatch has a 12 o’clock indicator that points to a special '100 Years of Chevrolet' logo, which features the automobile brand's logo plated in gold.

The watch sports a Japanese Miyota quartz chronograph movement and an attractive looking dial. The case itself is actually meant to evoke the look of an engine block, with the crown and pushers being pistons. Finally, the rubber strap to which the watch is attached to looks like tire tread.

“We’re excited to be included in this milestone occasion,” said Jeff Freedman of Equipe watches. “Equipe is the perfect fit for Chevrolet because all of our watches are designed with an automotive theme.”

The watch is a limited production made from surgical stainless steel with a black tire tread band. Each unit carries the Chevrolet 100th anniversary logo with serial number.  The limited production Equipe timepiece recently had its public debut at the National Corvette Museum, Bowling Green, Kentucky.

“Each Equipe watch recalls some high-option auto feature – from the engine to the exhaust, from the interior to the exterior, from the tiniest ball joint to the most obvious paint color. Equipe embodies identifiable parts of the car (gaskets, pistons, timing chains, gauges, and other sleek touches) with enviable reality and daring design,”
the company explains.

Equipe watches retail for $299 to $599, with the top-of-the-line Ball Joint selling for $999 due to its extremely high-tech 360-degree movable lugs. Pricing for the “100th Big Block” has not been announced yet.
