Human kind has been burning books as long as we can remember. Whether it’s the case of the obliteration of the Library of Baghdad, the burning of books and burying of scholars under China’s Qin Dynasty, the destruction of Aztec codices by Itzcoatl or even what the Nazis did in the Second World War. Yet this piece is not about a destroyer, but a builder, an artist that wants to bring literature to the masses in an amazing way.
Raul Lemesoff is a Brazilian artist from Buenos Aires who figured that it would be about time humans think of a weapon of mass instruction for a change, one that we’d use to construct, to make this world smarter, if not better.

So he came up with possibly the world’s first tank that gives away books as it cruises the streets. The ongoing project took Lemesoff the last years to create and sees a 1979 Ford Falcon transform into a military-style vehicle, that even has a rotating upper chamber and a lookalike barrel.

Instead of a having an armored bodywork made of the latest materials on the market, the vehicle’s walls are made of built-in shelves that carry around a varied collection of poetry, novels and biographies. It’s a library on wheels that brings joy for the mind, around 900 books to be more precise.

The creative and somewhat impressive idea is the fruit of a collaboration with 7Up, who had Raul starring in one of their “feels good to be you” campaign. You might remember it ever since we told you guys about that knitted double-decker created by an Austin-based artist known for her urban knitting projects. The beverage corporation recently released a video that features the artist’s work as the car is being transformed and later taken to the streets.

Great job, Raul Lemesoff!
