EPA Blasts 2018 Karma Revero for Woeful Fuel Efficiency Figures

The Karma Revero has taken over from where the Fisker Karma left off, but the range-extended plug-in hybrid isn’t exactly eco-friendly.

The Environmental Protection Agency says the following about the $130k vehicle: “You spend $500 more in fuel costs over 5 years compared to the average new vehicle.” The annual fuel cost? $1,450! Don't know about you, but Karma has definitely failed to deliver an environmentally-friendly car.

According to the EPA, owners pony up an estimated $3.57 when driving on gas only. Rated an abysmal 60 MPGe or 56 kWh per 100 miles, the Revero’s most disgraceful detail comes in the form of combined fuel consumption. At 20 miles per gallon, even the Ford F-150 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 is more frugal.

Total driving range isn’t on par with the automaker’s numbers either, with the EPA rating the Karma Revero at 240 miles range (37 miles on electricity and the rest on gasoline). So it’s clear the luxo-hybrid is nothing more than an old dog unwilling to teach new tricks, but the real problem in this particular instance is that Karma has overestimated the Revero in every aspect.

Now that you know what the EPA has to say about the over-hyped Revero, here are the figures published on the Karma website: 50 miles of electric range and 300 miles total range. Quite a discrepancy, isn’t it? And you know what? The prospective customer won’t really care about the Environmental Protection Agency’s findings, partly because nobody buys a range-extended plug-in hybrid to save money at the pump or to save the polar bears.

Instead of applying cold water to burn, the discerning customer should be aware that even battery-powered electric vehicles such as the Chevrolet Bolt are comparable to the Fisker Karma in terms of EPA-estimated range (238 compared to 240 miles). What’s more, the rear-wheel-drive Tesla Model S 75 and dual-motor 75D both offer a higher driving range (249 and 259 miles).

Oh well; better luck next time, Karma.
