Enthusiast Builds an RC Mercedes-Benz G-Class Lego Version Just as Capable as in Real Life

It’s no secret the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has one of the simplest, boxiest designs in the automotive industry, so building it out of bricks shouldn’t be such a bad idea, right?

Not at all, actually. It’s true, this here is Lego Technic, the advanced version of the popular and much-appreciated Danish plastic bricks, but the principle is more or less the same. Well, up to a point, because Lego these days is much more complex than simply laying one brick on top of another: there are electric motors and pieces that have USB connections and can be programmed. Yep, you can make pretty much anything out of Lego these days, including robots, but if you step on those bricks, it still hurts like a mother f...

Back to the automotive world, if there was ever a car that looked like it was designed after a Lego model, then it has to be the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Trying to find a rounded shape on the big G-Wagen’s body may result in a wasted life: it’s all 90 degrees angles and flat surfaces.

Yes, that makes it a prime candidate for a Lego conversion, but even so, the author of this incredible model deserves all the praise in the world. Or, better yet, a job at Lego. He’s a Master Builder, alright. And the thing is, it doesn’t just look good but it’s completely functional as well.

The Lego G-Class comes with two electric motors, servo-steering and six LED lights with a switch mounted on the dashboard. This last feature is only for showing off, and it works.

True to its off-road credentials, the G-Class is also equipped with a pendular suspension system that gets a very thorough presentation in the video with the body being moved from left to right by an unseen hand. And then it’s off to the testing course, which gets cleared with ease by the plastic G-Class.

See it in action below. Nice carpet, by the way.
