Engineering Explained Discusses Engine Break-In, Here's The Big "Secret"

Ah, the sweet engine break-in period. Some like to do things the old-fashioned way, taking things slowly for the first 1,000 miles, while others enjoy hooning their brand new car right in front of the dealership.

We are kidding you not - actually, with the Internet popularising such adventurous procedures, the break-in burnout isn't that uncommon. But what's the safest way of getting over your engine's infancy phase?

Well, Engineering Explained is here to talk about the official way. And if plenty of manufacturers have similar recommendations, this will pass as "the norm" in our book.

The piece of footage at the bottom of the page sees Jason Fenske (the actual name of the Youtuber) favoring the break-in process in his "5 Things You Should Never Do In A Brand New Car" video. So what's the big "secret"? Well, this has to do with the normal approach so few people seem to be willing to use these days - patience.

And while we won't waste anybody's time by listing pieced of the advice from the clip here, there's one more manufacturer we'd like to add to the ones already mentioned in the video.

After all, since Affalterbach still uses the one-man-one-engine policy, with the signature of the engineer that put together your car's heart being found on the engine cover, these German should know a thing or two about the break-in interval.

And AMG places a windshield sticker talking about the break-in procedures on most, if not all of its cars - while this only offers the basic instructions, we've added a photo of it to your right, since this is a much simpler way of getting info that having to look for an owner's manual (we're referring to you boys and girls who don't already have such a manual).

Hopefully, this will bring the aggressive vs. progressive engine run-in debate many steps closer to being solved.
