Eminem Is Not Giving Away a Cadillac Ciel to Fans, but the Hoax Goes Further

Eminem is probably one of the biggest rappers in the US and like most of these artists out there, the internet is filled with false fan pages. It’s the case of this particular one, that reached out to its followers the other day claiming they’re giving away a Cadillac Ciel as a Christmas prize. Even though it’s not the first hoax of that kind, it would seem it’s working.

Named Slim Shady, the Facebook fan page is currently having more than 600,000 likes, which would be quite big for normal people, but means little for celebrities like Eminem. In fact, his official fan page has over 97 million likes. Two days ago the person taking care of the page posted a message claiming there’s a contest taking place to celebrate Christmas. The prize: a 2014 Cadillac Ciel.

All they needed to do is share the post and the image of the car and on Friday “I will be giving away this 2014 Cadillac Ciel to one random lucky fan”. The post was shared 106,774 times so far, so what should have been a simple joke seems to be turning into quite a big problem.

Folks over at Autoblog reached out to Cadillac spokesman David Caldwell and it turns out this is not only a hoax, but it happened several times before (big surprise!). Meanwhile, the fellow keeps posting stupid things on the page and people keep believing there’s an actual chance they will win something, anything. It turns out you can now also win a daily $500 prize and the final stake of $350,000.

As for the car itself, let's just say the chances somebody would give it away on a contest are pretty low. The Ciel is a hybrid electric concept car created by Cadillac and unveiled at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Packed with a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter direct injection V6, it makes a total of 425 horsepower. It’s beautiful, but it never got into production, unfortunately.
