Elvis Presley’s Private Jets to Go On Auction

Since the current times are all about who’s the biggest show off, which celebrity spends more on million-dollar cars and what sort of luxury mansion whatever couple just bought, the timing for this auction is perfect. After being publicly showcased for the past thirty years at Graceland - The King’s famous home in Memphis, Tennessee - Elvis Presley’s two jets are now going under the hammer.

The first, “Lisa Marie”, Elvis purchased from Delta Airlines on April 17, 1975. As if the very substantial amount of $250,000 wasn’t enough, the Rock’n’Roll king has invested more than $300,000 to refurbish the Convair 880 Jet. The private airplane was dubbed in honor of his only daughter and reinvented to Elvis own directions. The redesigned jet became an airworthy mix of modern function and amazing styler fit for such a king.

Juliens Auctions, the house where the unique airplanes are on sale, claim the aircraft was customized to include plush sleeping quarters, a penthouse bedroom with a custom-made queen size bed, an executive bathroom with gold faucets and gold washbasin, a videotape system linked to four televisions and a stereo system with fifty speakers and a conference room. The tail section of the plane featured Presley’s trademark - TCB, which stands for Taking Care of Business.

The second airplane, dubbed The Hound Dog II, is a Lockheed JetStar which Elvis bought in 1975 while waiting for Lisa Marie to finish her refurbishment for a price of almost $900,000.

The planes are currently on display at Graceland and are offered exclusively by Julien’s Auction through a sealed bid auction which begun on Friday, January 2, through Monday, February 2. The sealed bid auction gives bidders simultaneous opportunities to submit sealed bids to the auction house.
