Elon Musk Says You'll Be Able to Fit All That Big Junk Inside Model 3's Trunk

Three and a half months after the Model 3 was first introduced and people - at least the 373,000 who have already placed reservations for the car - are still worried about the new electric sedan's trunk opening.
Yup, in this day and age when all talk revolves around silicon chips, artificial intelligence, and battery technology, we humans still think about what we're going to do with the luggage if it doesn't fit into the Model 3's admittedly rather small opening. In fact, this was noted as one of the main complaints regarding the car ever since it was unveiled, together with the bizarre interior design and... well, not much else.

There are two very simple explanations for this: first is that the gap revealed by lifting the trunk was indeed scarily small. At the time, Elon Musk said owners would be able to fit a bicycle through there, but common sense had a different opinion. That thing looks like it would make even slipping the grocery bags in a bit of a hassle. It's like one of those apparently impossible puzzles that ask you to fit a square piece through a round opening - you know it can be done, but you can't figure out how for the life of you.

The second reason has to do with the other two Tesla cars, the Model S and the Model X. Both of them are highly practical vehicles, and that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the front trunk. The rear luggage space is more than decent, but more importantly than that, it is easily accessible thanks to the large hatches. The Model 3 comes with a regular trunk lid, and it pays the price for it.

Now, though, with just a few days until Musk promised its Model 3 designers would "put their pencils down" and finalize all the details, the CEO answered a tweet on the trunk opening issue saying it was "already taken care of." The four words that so many future Model 3 owners were craving for have been muttered, but for now, they're also all we've got. And they're coming from a man who thought you could squeeze a full-size bicycle through that tiny gap, so maybe his idea of "taking care of things" might not rise to the expectations of others. Whatever the case, we probably only have a few more days - maybe weeks - until we find out. Fingers crossed.

And, besides, even if the Model 3 doesn't deliver the large loading area that people want, there's still time until the car actually comes out. You know, plenty of time to take smart packing and light traveling classes.
