Elon Musk Has Become the World's Wealthiest Man (That We Know of)

Don't worry, we only inserted that parenthesis for the conspiracy theory freaks out there; we don't actually think there are other wealthier people living in the shadows. That's because they're not people, they're aliens.

Speaking of aliens, have you heard the news about Elon Musk? It looks like the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, Boring Company, OpenAI, Neuralink has finally managed to surpass Jeff Bezos in Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index to become the world's wealthiest person, according to The Verge.

Do you feel like 2020 was a bad year? Well, it may have been for most of the world's population, but it sure wasn't for Elon Musk. 365 days ago, Musk's wealth was a measly twenty-something billion U.S. dollars. Fast-forward through this pandemic-ridden year, and his net worth has increased by more than $150 billion. How is that possible?

Well, Elon Musk may want to change the way we think about transportation and take us on a ride to Mars, but a side product of all the success of his companies - particularly Tesla - is that it's also making him richer and richer. The reason behind that is he's still holding a big chunk of Tesla Motors shares - about 20% - the value of which has skyrocketed over the past 12 months.

The recent news of the EV maker missing its 500,000 global deliveries for 2020 by only a few hundred units bumped the TSLA value even further, enough for Musk to lead Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos by one billion dollars ($188 billion and $187 billion respectively). If you'd be so kind as to crowd-source $1 billion, we're sure Jeff Bezos would gladly take it just so he could look down at Elon Musk for a few more moments.

That's because the two tech tycoons have been locked in a long-lasting feud over the last years, exchanging not so friendly tweets and never missing a chance to poke one another whenever the opportunity presented itself.

With Tesla stock seemingly on a constant rise now and Musk set to receive even more shares based on his incentive package as various milestones are met, it looks as though the only way for his colossal wealth is up. However, stock markets are volatile, and shares can just as easily go down as they do in the opposite direction. It's still all to play for, so there won't be any good night's sleep for Musk just yet.
