Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk has unveiled new details about the company’s upcoming Model X crossover. Speaking at a store opening in London, Musk said the new EV will only be offered as all-wheel-drive, although the automaker’s website says it will be available in rear-wheel-drive as well.
In addition, Musk said revealed that the crossover will go on sale with a “slightly” more expensive than the Model S four-door sedan, which starts from $63,750 in the United States.
"The Model X price will be very similar to the Model S. It's probably going to be a slightly higher starting price because the Model X will only be offered as all-wheel-drive. So it'll be dual-motor all-wheel drive,” Musk said.
Initially scheduled to go into production in late 2013 and hit dealerships in early 2014, the Model X was delayed until next year as Tesla Motors decided to increase production of the Model S and repay its DOE loans early.
