The $5,000 single seater ELF sounds tempting for your personal neighborhood rambler, but there are times you’ll also need to take another person with you. Reason why, the company rolled out a new option for the egg-omobile; the secondary tandem passenger seat.

The official website shows the company is already tanking pre-orders for the secondary seats, an upgrade that costs $499. Expect the delivery time to be longer in this case.

Your rear passenger won’t enjoy as much room as you do as a driver, but at least the electric motor the ELF comes with will aid you pedaling at ease. Using just the 600 watts unit, the velomobile will reach a maximum speed of 20 mph (32 km/h) while adding in some footwork will increase it to about 30 mph (48 km/h).

The ELF weighs only 150 lbs (68 kg) and can accept a 350 lbs (160 kg) payload. On a full battery and no human aid, it will travel for just over 15 miles (24 km) and recharging the battery takes 2.5 hours at a normal outlet or about 7 hours using the solar panels mounted on its roof.
