Elektromotive Charging Points Roll Out Begins in August

The UK is about to get its first extensive electric vehicle charging infrastructure, after local EV solutions manufacturer Elektromotive announced it will begin rolling off its charging points next month. With the target set on becoming Europe's largest EV charging solutions provider, Elektromotive will install 200 Elektrobay points in the month to come.

"Publicly accessible recharging posts are essential for encouraging consumers to buy the new electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles that will aid progress towards a low carbon future," Elektromotive managing director Calvey Taylor-Haw told just-auto.com.

"This project will set an ambitious new benchmark for future infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas."

Elektromotive already operates 135 such points in London, where the first charging points were installed ever since 2006. An additional 135 are operational across the UK. For the new units, the company received the order from the Regional Development Agency One North East through Newcastle City Council.

The new locations include Teesside, Gateshead, Newcastle, Durham and Sunderland. According to the provider, the charging points are compatible with pure electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Elektrobay charging points allow for remote billing and fast charging.

"Important vehicle trials have been taking place here, which have already shown that range anxiety is a major issue for drivers who are considering using an electric car. Therefore the comprehensive network we are developing, allowing people to charge at home, at work, in town and city centres and at our visitor attractions, will be key to showing drivers that the switch to low carbon transport is viable," Taylor-Haw added.
